FAQs

This guide has been created to answer questions which are commonly asked about London Web Performance meet ups.  It will continue to be developed over time in response to questions that are asked by the community. The guide below focuses on our home venue of The Finacial Times but the general terms are the same for all venues that we use.

What time should I arrive?

We open registration at 18:15. Please try to arrive before 18:45. Drinks will be available for early arrivals, so arrive early, get a great seat and enjoy a beer or soft drink before the talk starts!

How do I get in?

The registration desk is located in the main lobby/reception of the FT building. The entrance is actually on the 2nd floor: it’s the first building on your left after walking across Southwark Bridge from north to south. Security will escort arrivals in groups to the conference suite on the 6th floor.

What food is there?

Pizza will be served at the end of the talk, usually around 20:15 to 20:45 depending on the talk length and number of talks, the meetup will end at 22:00 and all attendees must exit the building by 22:30.

Why do I have to pay to come?

The £5 entry fee for the meetup is mostly to reduce the number of no-shows. If we have a big waitlist, it’s very frustrating to have turned away dozens of people and yet end up with a room that’s only half full. The ticket revenue helps to pay for the general operation of the group, evening security at the venue and to fund larger events we run at a loss like WebPerfDays and Edge conference.

London Web Performance Group CIC is a non-profit community interest company, so any annual surplus from both sponsorship and attendance fees is donated to charity.

Do I have to bring my ticket and ID to the event?

Yes please! It really helps us if you can bring your Eventbrite paper or online ticket (containing the QR code) to the checkin desk at the event.  This is because we may have new people helping us on the desk who have no idea who any of our regular attendees are.

FT Security also insist on the right to spot check that people entering the building have government issued ID that matches their ticket reservation. You may not be allowed to enter the meetup if you cannot prove that you are the person who registered for your ticket.

What is the refund policy?

We do not offer refunds on our nominal event fees, but if you are unable to come you can either use Eventbrite to transfer it to someone else anytime up to 6pm on the day, or if you just cancel your ticket Eventbrite will automatically offer it to someone else on the waitlist of a sold out event.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay?

No. FT Security reserve the right to spot check and refuse entry if you cannot prove that you are the person who ordered the ticket by producing government issued ID such as a driving licence or passport.

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

Yes.  Since we are serving alcohol and are not supervising the bar, we cannot admit anyone under the age of 18. If you are under 18 or you want to bring a guest who is under 18, please contact us and we’ll work something out. If you look under 18, be prepared to show some ID.

I have accessibility needs, can I get some help?

Yes. Email hello@ldnwebperf.org and we’ll try and help you out. At our regular FT venue:

  • Blind or vision impaired attendees are welcome to bring a guide (whether human or canine!)
  • We have a hearing loop for hearing aid users. Tell us ahead of time so we can make sure it’s on and working.
  • Wheelchair users should be aware that the normal 2nd floor entrance has steps, but step free access into the conference room is available from the entrance on the ground floor.
